Technical Details

I acquired this eight from Outdoor Exchange in 1998.

The Faders is forged from aluminum alloy and then soft anodized. Mine is 104 mm. tall, 80 mm. wide, and 19 mm. thick. The Faders has a distinct bend that accounts for the increased thickness; if flat, it would be only 9.9 mm. thick. The rope hole is 41 mm. high and 63 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 9.7 mm. The shaft length and width are 27 mm. and 24 mm., respectively. The eye measures 21 mm. by 21 mm. My eight weighs 69 g.

The convex side of the shaft is stamped "FADERS."

Comments

This is an odd-shaped, bent figure eight. It is lighter than most figure eights. The bend allows it to be rigged two ways with differing amounts of friction. The short overall length and sharp bends makes this eight rather "grabby" when using the high friction arrangement on sandy ropes.

The eye is too narrow to accept two full size locking carabiners. It is not designed for belaying.

Technical Details

I acquired my Faders, Version B on eBay from Chris Christensen in 2012.

Version B is forged from aluminum alloy and unfinished. Mine is 106 mm. tall, 82 mm. wide, and 19 mm. thick. The rope hole is 41 mm. high and 63 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 10 mm. The shaft length and width are 27 mm. and 24 mm., respectively. The eye measures 20 mm. by 21 mm. My eight weighs 71 g.

The convex side of the shaft is stamped "FADERS."

Technical Details

I acquired my Faders, Version C on eBay from Technical Rescue Training UK Ltd. in 2021.

Version B is forged from aluminum alloy and then soft anodized. Mine is 107 mm. tall, 74 mm. wide, and 18 mm. thick. The rope hole is 35 mm. high and 54 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 11 mm. The shaft length and width are 26 mm. and 30 mm., respectively. The eye measures 26 mm. by 26 mm. My eight weighs 86 g.

The convex side of the shaft is stamped "FADERS."

Comments

The Faders, Version C is one several odd-shaped, bent figure eights. Here are several that I have collected:

The bend allows these eights to be rigged two ways with differing amounts of friction. The rope hole is shorter than normal, so the high friction position may provide too much friction on stiff or muddy ropes. The short overall length and sharp bends makes this eight rather "grabby" when using the high friction arrangement on sandy ropes.

None of these eights have slots for sticht-type belaying, and their round eyes are not designed for that purpose.

Technical Details

I acquired my Faders Classic, Version A on eBay from Robert Gould in 2021.

The Faders Classic, Version A is forged from aluminum alloy and then soft anodized. Mine is 157 mm. tall, 75 mm. wide, and 16 mm. thick. The rope hole is 52 mm. high and 52 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 12 mm. The shaft length and width are 47 mm. and 23 mm., respectively. The eye measures 35 mm. by 35 mm. My eight weighs 135 g.

The front of the shaft is stamped "FADERS."

Comments

The Faders Classic, Version A is a large, forged, aluminum figure eight, but it is no heavier than typical full-sized eights. The extra-large eye allows the eight to be reversed to generate more friction. This is useful when using thinner ropes. The Calma Antibloc is an eared eight with the same feature.

Technical Details

I acquired this eight from Barrabés.com in Spain in 2003.

The Faders Classic, Version B is forged from aluminum alloy and then soft anodized. Mine is 155 mm. tall, 76 mm. wide, and 17 mm thick. The rope hole is 52 mm. high and 52 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 13 mm. The shaft length and width are 47 mm. and 26 mm., respectively. The eye measures 36 mm. by 35 mm. My eight weighs 142 g.

The front of the shaft is stamped "FADERS," and the rear is stamped "<-> 4000KG."

Faders also made this eight for FIXE to sell under their brand.

The markings on Versions  and B differ, and Version B uses an italic ("leaning") font face for "FADERS."

Faders Little 8

Technical Details

I acquired my Faders Little 8 new on eBay in 2009.

The Faders Little 8 is forged from aluminum alloy and then soft anodized. Mine is 129 mm. tall, 71 mm. wide, and 13 mm. thick. The rope hole is 48 mm. high and 48 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 11 mm. The shaft length and width are 34 mm. and 26 mm., respectively. The eye measures 25 mm. by 25 mm. My eight weighs 96 g.

One side is printed with "LITTLE 8," "Faders," and "105."

Comments

The Faders Little 8 is another "midi" size, forged, aluminum eight, but it differs from most. The dimensional differences do not really affect performance. It is lighter than most figure eights.

One side is printed with "LITTLE 8," "Always Free with ALIEN," an alien head icon, "Faders," and "ALIEN."

Comments

The Faders Little 8 ALien is another "midi" size, forged, aluminum eight. It differs from the Little 8 only by its markings.
