Technical Details

I acquired this rack from John E. Weinel, Inc. in 1989.

This rack is 378 mm. tall, 67 mm. wide, and 25 mm thick. It weighs 717 g. The frame is made from 9.5 mm. stainless steel bent into shape, with an internal width of 35 mm. and a 26 mm. diameter coiled eye. There are 6 brake bars. The bars are 19 mm. in diameter and 68 mm. long. Allowing 45 mm. for the rope leaves 84 mm. range for spreading the bars.

There are no markings on this rack.

Comments

In the 1970s, Nick Ross made a number of racks for members of the Explorers Club of Pittsburgh. He copied the long BlueWater rack, and it is not always easy to tell the two apart, at least not with earlier versions of the BlueWater. I've confused the two myself, but the key is that Nick’s rack is longer than the BlueWater and the bars are shorter.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
