Overview

History

Boris Rogelja founded Single Rope Technique Equipment (SRTE) in 1980. Capital Safety Group acquired SRTE in 2011 and their devices started showing DBI-SALA, Capital Safety, and/or Rollgliss™ markings. 3M acquired the Capital Safety Group in 2015 and the Single Rope Technique Equipment markings disappeared.

Technical Details

I acquired this rack from Single Rope Technique Equipment in 1989.

My Single Rope Technique Equipment DR3 rack is 167 mm. tall, 58 mm. wide, 22 mm. thick, and weighs 307 g. The frame is made from 7.9 mm. stainless steel bent into a U, with an internal width of 34 mm. at the top, tapering to 28 mm. at the bottom. There are three solid, soft-anodized aluminum alloy brake bars. The bars are 22 mm. in diameter and 58 mm. long. The middle bar is slotted, the other two are not. The tops of the frame have machined and pinned posts for retaining the bars.

There are no markings on the slotted bar, but one end of each slotless bar is stamped as follows:

S.R.T.
AUSTRALIA
EQUIP

Comments

The DR3 is a compact rack. The taper prevents effectively spreading the bars, but with only three bars, the rack is rather fast anyhow. Fortunately, the horns are long enough that the rope can be looped over the top for extra friction, particularly if the rope isn't too stiff.

I acquired this rack from Single Rope Technique Equipment in 1989.

My Single Rope Technique Equipment DR5 rack is 257 mm. tall, 57 mm. wide, 22 mm. thick, and weighs 494 g. The frame is made from 7.9 mm. stainless steel bent into a U, with an internal width of 34 mm. There are five solid, soft-anodized aluminum alloy brake bars. The bars are 22 mm. in diameter and 58 mm. long. The second and fourth bars are slotted, the other three are not. The tops of the frame have machined and pinned posts for retaining the bars.

There are no markings on the slotted bars, but one end of each slotless bar is stamped as follows:

S.R.T.
AUSTRALIA
EQUIP

Comments

The DR5 is larger than the DR3, but having five bars makes in easier to control. Allowing 35 mm. for the rope gives a 70 mm. range for spreading the bars, and five bars provide sufficient friction under common caving conditions.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
