Technical Details

I acquired my Rock Exotica Totem from Edward Bennett in2015.

The Rock Exotica Totem is 191 mm. tall, 63 mm. wide, 10 mm. thick, and weighs 134 g. It is milled from aluminum alloy plate and then soft anodized. The elliptical eyes are 18.4 mm. high and 26.2 mm. wide. The large rope hole is 44 mm. in diameter. The two slots are each 38 mm. long and 12.8 mm. wide.

One side of the Totem is printed with "TOTEM," "30kN," "rock exotica USa," a book-with-an-"i" icon, and "11061M0215."

Comments

The Canyon & Crags Totem was an earlier version that had different markings.

Rich Carlson designed the Totem to be versatile, combining a figure eight with a Sticht Plate. I don't see a need for combining these into one larger device for climbing or caving, but the Totem is a canyoneering descender, and canyoneering is Rich’s specialty. Canyoneers seem to like it for their purposes, and I'll leave its evaluation for that arena to them.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
