Technical Details

I acquired this Pierre Allain copy from Dave Belski in 1994.

This copy is 126 mm. tall, 79 mm. wide, 13 mm. thick, and weighs 115 g.

Comments

In 1994, Dave Belski gave me three homemade copies of the Pierre Allain descender. Dean Holloway made these for Dave around 1964 or 1965. The first version is a small descender made from 1/2* aluminum plate. Note the extra horn on the bottom of the crosspiece.

Technical Details

I acquired this Pierre Allain copy from Dave Belski in 1994.

This copy is 158 mm. tall, 93 mm. wide, 19 mm. thick, and weighs 203 g.

Comments

Version B is larger, and better finished than Version A; in fact, the workmanship is excellent. However this was done, it required a great deal of patience and craftsmanship, particularly rounding areas like the shaft and the inside of the eye.

Technical Details

I acquired this Pierre Allain copy from Dave Belski in 1994.

This copy is 205 mm. tall, 132 mm. wide, 13 mm. thick, and weighs 272 g.

Comments

Version C is too large for my taste. It was not as well finished as the other two, and the choice of using 1/2" (12.7 mm.) plate left this version with a blocky appearance.
