Technical Details

I acquired this eight from PetrenkoWorld (now Gear4Rocks) in 2007. Gear4Rocks is the same company as Krok, the only difference is that the Krok trademark sells gear only inside the Ukraine, and the Gear4Rocks trademark was created to spread Ukrainian gear around the world.

The Krok 8 Classic is milled from aluminum alloy plate and then painted. Mine is 140 mm. tall, 74 mm. wide, and 10 mm. thick. The rope hole is 48 mm. high and 48 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 10 mm. The shaft length and width are 41 mm. and 28 mm., respectively. The eye measures 25 mm. by 25 mm. My eight weighs 109 g.

The front of the shaft is stamped with the Krok logo.

Comments

The Krok 8 Classic is a full size, milled plate aluminum eight. The "paint" has a chalky feel, almost like whitewash, and forms a thin coating that rubs off easily. I don't like painted finishes on descenders because they can leave a mess on the rope, but this finish seems too thin to worry about.

Technical Details

I acquired this eight from PetrenkoWorld (now Gear4Rocks) in 2007.

The Krok 8 Square is milled from aluminum alloy plate and then painted. Mine is 127 mm. tall, 75 mm. wide, and 10 mm. thick. The rope hole is 49 mm. high and 50 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 10 mm. The shaft length and width are 33 mm. and 27 mm., respectively. The eye measures 21 mm. by 32 mm. My eight weighs 99 g.

The front of the shaft is stamped with the Krok logo and "2200 KG."

Comments

The Krok 8 Square is a typical example of a "flat top" aluminum eight. I don't like painted finishes on descenders because they can leave a mess on the rope.

The Krok 8 Square is lighter than most figure eights.

Technical Details

I acquired my Krok 6021_0951.11 (Инвар-Восьмёрка, meaning "Invar-Eight") from Krok in 2021.

The Krok 6021_0951.11 is milled from aluminum alloy plate and then painted. Mine is 115 mm. tall, 85 mm. wide, and 10 mm. thick. The rope hole is 59 mm. high and 58 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 10 mm. The shaft length and width are 12 mm. and 44 mm., respectively. The eye measures 19 mm. by 18 mm. My eight weighs 92 g.

The front is printed with the Krok logo, "20.12.04.03," and a book-with-an-"i" icon.

Comments

The Krok 6021_0951.11 is one of the "other eights" that do not fit into my normal categories.

The Krok 6021_0951.11 is lighter than most figure eights. It does not have a distinct shaft, and so it is shorter than most eights. The eye is too narrow to accept two full size locking carabiners.

I don't like painted finishes on descenders because they can leave a mess on the rope.

Krok mentions that this eight can also be used as a movable anchor device while slacklining, where the line passes through the large hole and the walker ties (not clips) their safety through the eye.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
