Technical Details

I acquired my Frendo, Version A from Alpinist & Globetrotter in ICS97.

Version A is 158 mm. tall, 71 mm. wide, 58 mm. thick, and weighs 162 g. It consists of a forged and anodized aluminum body with a spring-wire gate. The upper rope hole is 43.7 mm. in diameter, and the eye is 14.9 mm.

One side of the spine is stamped "Frendo."

Comments

The Frendo design very nicely allows one to rig the eight without unclipping it from the seat harness. Although this isn't really a problem in most caving or climbing situations, canyoneering provides a real opportunity to drop equipment. This eight was designed for that scenario, and satisfies the niche needs very well.

Technical Details

I acquired my Frendo, Version B from Comptoir des Techniques Verticales in ICS97.

Version A is 158 mm. tall, 71 mm. wide, 58 mm. thick, and weighs 163 g. It consists of a forged aluminum body with a spring-wire gate. The upper rope hole is 43.7 mm. in diameter, and the eye is 14.9 mm.

One side of the spine is stamped "Frendo."

Comments

Version B is the same as Version A except for the finish, which is a thick painted finish. I don't like paint on my descenders because it will inevitably rub off on the rope.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
