Technical Details

InstructionsI acquired my Rock Exotica Wall Hauler (Model 302010) from The Gendarme in 1991. I acquired another in 2017 as part of Bob Thrun’s collection. Wm Shrewsbury of On Rope 1 gave me a third in 2023.

The Rock Exotica Wall Hauler is 153 mm tall, 66 mm. wide, and 51 mm. thick. Mine weighs 236  g.

The Rock Exotica Wall Hauler is a small pulley with an eccentric cam mounted on a suspended frame. The spring-loaded steel cam has 11 rows of chisel-shaped teeth. The pin can be used to keep the cam from opening enough to free the rope, or to hold the cam completely open.

The front plate is printed with "wall hauler" and a down-pointing arrow labeled "LOAD."

Comments

The Wall Hauler was designed for hauling haul bags on big wall climbs. I've found that it works very well for that purpose - the improvement over the traditional Jumar haul more than justifies carrying the additional weight. It is also a great device for hauling SCUBA tanks out of cenotes. The wall hauler is designed for light loads, say 1 kN (225 lbs) or less.

The Rock Exotica Wall Hauler was later sold by Petzl.

Warning:
The Wall Hauler should never be used to support human loads.
