Technical Details

I acquired this heavily used Grillon from Mike’s Pawn in 2007.

The Petzl Grillon is a flipline adjuster. The device is 117 mm tall, 67 mm. wide, and 42 mm. thick. Mine weighs 208 g. The set includes a 12.5 mm. kernmantle flipline. I did not photograph the one that came with this Grillon because the line was far beyond the end of its safe working life; besides, it smelled bad.

The front cover is stamped with "GRILLON" and a flipline rigging diagram, while the rear is stamped with the Petzl logo, "MADE IN FRANCE," WARNING PROPER TRAINING IS ESSENTIAL BEFORE USE," the "Reading is Dangerous" icon, "EN 358," and "CE0197." The knob has the Petzl logo mounded into it, and is stamped "U2347C." The cam lever has a climber icon in an arrow, a carryover from the Grigri.

Comments

The Grillon is clearly related to the Petzl Grigri. The main differences are as follows:

  1. My Grillon replaces the lever on the Grigri with a knob.
  2. The cam is not spring-loaded
  3. A small screw in the rear keeps the cover closed.

Technical Details

I acquired this used Petzl Grillon, Version B from Bullets LLC in 2020.

Version B is 63 mm. long, 117  mm. tall, 67 mm. wide, and 42 mm. thick. Mine weighs 208 g. The set includec a 2 m. long, 11.5 mm. diameter kernmantle flipline with plastic-covered sewn eyes at each end. One egy is closed sith a plastic sex bolt to reduce the chance of rigging the flipline backwards.

The front cover is stamped with a flipline rigging diagram and a book-with-an-"i" icon. The plastic cover plate has "GRILLON" molded into it. The rear is printed with a scanner code, "19A0173125132," "ANSI Z359-17 59-140kg," "Positioning Lanyard", "CSA Z259.11-17 class F<2.5m", the UL classified logo, "45YF," "CE-0082," a man icon, "x1", "EN358:1999," "EN 795:2012," "Type B,C", "EN12841:2006/C - 100 kg," "PETZL F - 38920 CROLLES CIDEX 105A, "EAC," "TPm" "TC," and "019/2011." The plastic eye covers have a molded Petzl logo, and the open eye end has "2 m" visible on a tag underneath the cover.

Comments

This Grillon has a handle, making it even more like the Petzl Grigri. Version B is more compact than Version A was.
