Technical Details

I acquired this plate from Dave Lester at the 2010 NSS Convention.

Dave’s plate is not really a chest box; instead, it is a harness aid. It consists of two 280 × 67 × 9.5 mm. nylon plates held together with twenty Allen socket cap screws. The inner sides of each plate are milled with a 44 × 4.8 mm. horizontal channel to accommodate the harness chest strap and two 27 × 2.5 mm. vertical channels to accommodate the shoulder straps.

There are no markings on this plate.

Comments

Dave made this for use on a Karst Works harness. Notice that neither the Simmons roller nor the D-ring are attached directly to the plate; instead, they are held only by the stronger webbing.

The length of this plate makes it more efficient for climbing (i.e., it can hold the climber closer to the rope) but it also is too bulky for my taste in a caving rig.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
