Technical Details

I acquired my Russian Alpine Box copy from a Vladimir Kisseljov & Ilia Alexandrov at the 1994 Old Timers Reunion.

My Russian, Alpine Box Copy is 55 mm. long, 210 mm. wide, 53 mm. high, and weighs 287 g. It is a double channel chest box consisting of a solid aluminum plate, two aluminum rollers, and swinging aluminum gates with spring steel latches. The rollers and gates are attached to a subtriangular aluminum rib with a stainless steel bolt. The rib is bolted to the back plate. The back plate has 46 mm. tall vertical slots for attaching the box to a chest strap and 26 mm. wide horizontal slots for attaching shoulder straps. All of the aluminum parts are anodized.

The plate is engraved with the following proverb:

Comments

The workmanship on the Russian copy is good, but not as good as on the original Alpine Box. The slot arrangement is better than on the original. The rollers are metal instead of plastic, definitely an advantage. The box is somewhat heavier than the original.

Vadim Kovalevskiy interpreted the proverb for me, and provided the following transcription:

He who burns, will not drown.

Vadim translated "Кому сгореть, тот не утонет" as, "He who burns, will not drown."

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
