Technical Details

I acquired my Ledbetter Single in 2017 as part of Bob Thrun’s collection.

My Ledbetter Double is 77 mm. long, 100 mm. wide, 57 mm. high, and weighs 325 g. It is a single channel chest box consisting of thick, milled back plate with a stainless steel channel attached to it by two machine screws. There is a plastic roller mounted on a quick release pin that fits in from one side of the channel. The back plate has 55 mm. tall vertical slots for attaching the box to a chest harness.

There is a small hole drilled and countersunk in the bottom center of the back plate. A 3.5 mm. rapide link fits through this hole, attaching a small bungie pulley below. The pulley is 50 mm. tall and 26 mm. wide, and is made from 1.9 mm. aluminum alloy sheet metal. The roller is nylon, 19 mm. in diameter and 8.7 mm. wide, with a semicircular U-groove. The axle is a 5.5 mm. hex cap screw secured with a lock washer.

The pin is stamped with "AVIBANK PUSH" and "MS17984-510."

Comments

The Ledbetter Double has two rollers on a common quick-release pin. I do not like this arrangement because it means that one cannot open one side without affecting the other.

All of the edges, corners, and slots on the back plate are very well rounded. The plate is thicker than it needs to be, adding unnecessary weight.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
