Overview

History

Riccardo Cassin was an Italian mountaineer. Cassin began designing and producing mountaineering equipment in Lecco in 1947 when he produced his first rock pitons. In 1948 he produced his first hammers; his first ice axes appeared in 1949; and 1950 saw the introduction of his carabiners. Located near C.A.M.P., he worked closely with, but separately from them. C.A.M.P. acquired the Cassin trademark in 1997.

Technical Details

I acquired my Cassin, Version A from Noco Gear in 2021.

Version A is forged from aluminum alloy and clear anodized. My Version A is 88 mm. long, 45 mm. wide, 9 mm. thick, and weighs 58 g. It has six 11.8 mm and one 9.9 mm. hole for the sliding rope, and a 11.8 by 25 mm. eye.

One side is engraved with the Cassin logo, "ITALY," and "1A."

Comments

The slot is too narrow for some normal-sized carabiners. I find the slotted eye to be a bit inconvenient, and prefer anchor brakes that have round eyes.

Comments

The slot is too narrow for some normal-sized carabiners. I find the slotted eye to be a bit inconvenient, and prefer anchor brakes that have round eyes.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
