Technical Details

I acquired my Salewa Alpinbremse from Eastern Mountain Sports in 1979. Artyom Babin (Артём Бабин) sent me another in 2021.

The Salewa Alpinbremse is stamped from a pear-shaped 6.2 mm. aluminum alloy plate. The large hole is 41.4 mm. in diameter and the small one 15.3 mm. Mine is 27 mm. long, 93 mm. wide, 6 mm. high, and weighs 44 g.

The convex side is stamped with "ALPINBREMSE" and the Salewa logo. The concave side is stamped "Modell Sticht" and "Made in West Germany."

Comments

The Salewa Alpinbremse came without instructions. I presume that it was intended to be used in a free running or Munter belay configuration similar to those given for the Yates Belay Slave.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
