I acquired my Kong Futura Body new from Expé-Spelemat in 2010. I acquired another in 2017 as part of Bob Thrun’s collection.

The Kong Futura Body is 82 mm. tall, 48 mm. wide, 35 mm. thick, and weighs 82 g. The body is milled from an aluminum alloy extrusion that is given a twist at the lower eye. The rope channel is 14 mm. wide. The cam radius increases from 19 to 31 mm. over an angle of 42°, giving a 32° cam angle. The tooth pattern is (4)(5.2H2)^2(4.2). A small pin and a thin cord on the cam provide something to grip to open the cam. There is a cam stop.

The front is printed with the Kong logo, "ITALY," "BODY," and "FUTURA." The rear is printed with a man with an "X" across his heart, a dashed up-pointing arrow, a rigging illustration, two men crossed out with an "X," a book-with-an-"i" icon, the UIAA logo, "CE0426," "EN 12841/B:06," "100 kg," a coil of rope, "•/¡ Ø 10÷12 mm," "EN 567:97," another coil of rope, "•/¡ Ø 8÷12 mm," and "101247 10 0161."

Comments

The Kong Futura Body is well-made, and it certainly is tiny, but I wonder how easy it will be to grab the release rope when it is covered in mud and I am wearing thick gloves. Overall, my impression is that the Futura Body sacrifices too much to get the size so small.

The instruction manual that came with my Kong Futura Body illustrated several Kong ascenders, but it did not show or mention the Futura Body, nor did it give any instructions on how to use it.
