Carabiner Knot
(a.k.a. Bachmann 1947)

Carabiner Knot

Franz Bachmann introduced this knot in 1947, making it one of the earliest carabiner knots. The first publications appeared in 1951 in the Swiss Alpine Club magazine "Die Alpen", the Austrian Alpine Club’s "Berge und Heimat" and the German Alpine Club’s "Der Bergsteiger".

The knot slides easily, but holds securely if the main line is not too stiff and one chooses a sling material that works well with the main line.

I find this knot to be a minor nuisance to tie, so I don't use it much.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
