Ed Leeper made his first bolt hangers in 1962. The originals had a square bottom and are rarely seen. In 1964 he cut the square corner. In 1968, he made his hangers thicker and enlarged the carabiner hole. In 1972 he announced that he was discontinuing making bolt hangers so that he could focus on other items, although he made a few more for select friends up through 1984.
