Technical Details

Aleksei Chernov (Алексей Чернов) sent me this device in 2026.

This is the left-hand version . It is 84 mm. tall, 50 mm. wide, 54 mm. thick, and weighs 194 g.

This device was made from from 63x63 mm. steel angle by milling one slot and three horns on one side and drilling an attachment eye on the other.

There are no markings on this device.

Comments

These were made in the early 2000s for the industrial climbers of Vysotnik LLC in Kemerovo.

Made of steel and not aluminum, these are heavy but will wear well. Little effort was made to round the sharp edges and corners left from milling these to shape. I would do this mywelf before using these in the field.

The three open slots create three horns that allow adding extra friction for descending. They can also be used to provide a rather sketchy tie-off.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
