The Andenmatten brothers Florinus and Severin of Saas Almagel, Switzerland started making ice axes in 1918. The first logo had GEB.ANDENMATTEN, SCHWEIZ, and SAAS-ALMAGEL in three rows of capital letters. In 1930 the inscription changed to use lower-case letters. Some axes also had a mountain silhoutte with MARKE MISCHABEL stamped on the other side. Severin's son Ernest continued ice axe production into the early 1970s.
